Dexter's Story
The Loveable Rogue
Dexter came to me at 9 weeks old, I was his forth owner! He was a dog with a lot of behaviour problems and it was like dealing with a dog with ADHD. He couldn't settle, he could not be calm, he could not walk on the lead and constantly covered my arms in bruises!
I didn't give up on him, I took him out every day, I took him to dog training every week, and eventually after a good year of hard work and patience Dexter began to show that the training was working.
Dexter became the most faithful companion, loyal friend and he looked after all of his friends at the local park too!
Dexter used to come with me to visit the children at a special school I worked at, the children loved him and he was so very gentle and understanding with each child, from the children with challenging behaviour to the children with more physical disabilities, he would sit with them and give them a hug or just a gentle nose nudge so they knew he was there! He was one in a million.
Dex was still a rogue mind you! There was many a birthday cake that was taken from the kitchen tops, only to find him licking his chops! Many a chip wrapper found and carried home! And don't even get me started on the story about the crows!
When I had a severe back injury and was bed bound Dexter helped me through the days when I wasn't able to go out and eventually when I was he helped me to get on my feet and helped with the best physio I could do, walking!
Dexter was there for me when I needed him most, this is why I have named Dexter's Paws after him, he has left me with a legacy to fulfill, to keep looking after all of his friends like he would have!
So I hope that I'm making Dexter proud, I hope he's walking with us all!
I walk each dog as if they were a part of Dexter's pack, because if it weren't for him I wouldn't be doing this and probably wouldn't be on my feet at all!
